Filling a lull in the sports news

If you ever wanted to release a story that no one saw, this last weekend was it.  Baseball took all the headlines and bylines for two straight days.  Barry’s 755th, Tom Glavine getting his 300th win, and Alex Rodriguez being the youngest player to reach 500 home runs.

After the news the commentary, where cycling tends to receive coverage, also took these three stories to press.  Is Barry’s record legit? Will Glavine be the last 300 game winner? Will Alex knock Barry off the top so we don’t have the have this argument anymore?

If you were on the USADA and wanted to put out a story that would allow you some time to get out of Dodge, this was the weekend.  But as we already know, nothing.

I’ve been out of the cycling news for a bit with our moving house. I’ve caught up on your posts to see that we are still waiting for the smoke to turn color. Any idea what’s going on? I want to hope that it’s because they are honestly evaluating the case, for the actual truth, the political motives, or otherwise. I’m also wondering, if there’s a two year suspension, and Floyd has already missed one year, will he only have to miss one more if they find him “guilty?”

I’m not sure which riders are going to top the Vuelta yet either.

I have no idea what is taking so long. I only can hope they are using the time wisely. Most likely, they would begin his “time served” from last July when he stopped racing.

Technically that would mean that he couldn’t ride in the ’08 TdF…by like 21 days. Of course he would have to race in many warm-up races before that which would cut way into the two years. I guess as far as the TdF goes, we won’t see Floyd until ’09.

If guilty, then he’s probably out until 2011. 2 year ban for guilty then another 2 years off the ProTour.
