Riding for the top team in the world has a lot of perks. One of the down sides is that the competition for the Tour de France squad is tough. Prior to the Giro, two American riders, Dave Zabriskie and Bobby Julich were on the bubble for final selection to the team. Dave needed to show he was more than a time trial specialist as Fabian Cancellara has done. Bobby needed to show some results.
Dave Zabriskie came through in the Giro. He rode well throughout the three weeks in support of Andy Schleck, and showed significant improvement in his climbing. Unfortunately, Bobby Julich did not have a strong enough showing in the Dauphiné Libéré to merit inclusion.
