Riders like to shed any additional weight prior to the Tour de France. Today, Alexander Vinokourov shed excess baggage, his physician/trainer Dr. Lothar Heinrich. Since his days at T-Mobile, Vinokourov has maintained his relationship with Dr. Heinrich.
Now that the good doctor has admitted to being involved with the T-Mobile doping program during his tenure, Vino has dropped him as quickly as he would drop me in an ascent up Ventoux. Leaving no doubt as to the status of the relationship, Vinokourov is quoted in Cyclingnews:
Our relationship is over. I’m gone. Now I’m alone. I don’t regret this collaboration in the past. Heinrich is a good person. But you can never know what people do in life.”
Vino can only hope this attention does not put him in the crosshairs of our modern day Samuel Parris.
