Hurt so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love don’t feel like it should
You make it hurt so good
The Commerce Bank Triple Crown of cycling was held this past week and for me it is a dream week. The greater Philadelphia area hosted three races for elite pro racers and one race for not so elite racers. The latter being the 2007 Manayunk Hill Climb.
For the pros, the penultimate race is a 156 mile race through the streets of Philadelphia including 10 ascents of the Manayunk “wall” a 1K climb gradients of 17%. On Friday night, we, the common people had an opportunity to time trial up the Wall.
Literally, out of the start, there is a slight incline. You then turn under the elevated train tracks and on the other side, it’s straight up. The incline stays after the finish line so there is no respite even after the end. Man it was fun.
Results? I finished well in the middle neither embarrassing myself nor distinguishing myself. The bad news is the rider in front of me, by 1/2 second was my brother John.
Here is some amateur video of the climb that thankfully keeps me out of the final cut.
