Davitamon-Lotto is replacing one hard man with a newer model. Long time stalwart Peter Van Petegem is out for 2007. He will be replaced by Discovery Channel ex-pat Lief Hoste. Te last time something like this happened was when a young Tom Boonen left US Postal to go to Quick Step. Is Davitamon-Lotto trying to catch lighting in a bottle for a second time?

Italian Daniele Bennati (Lampre-Fondital) is proving that he is on late season form at the Tour de Poland. Bennati also took yellow leader’s jersey based on his two victories in stages two and four. Will he be the leader of the Italian team come the World Championships? It seems that the most competitive team will be the Italians. Which will be their undoing. With the exception of Zolder in 2002, this team has had difficulty rallying around one man for the Worlds.
