Perennial good guy George Hincappie was told “So sorry about that fall but…” by the judges at the Eneco Tou of Benelux. After reviewing the videotape, the judges did feel that Stephan Schumacher interfered with George Hincapie and cause the crash. That was the easy part. The hard part was ignoring the need to relegate Schumacher to last position within the group. That’s what you are supposed to do.
Instead, the judges let the result stand saying that Schumacher had no other choice than to cause the crash since he was trying to avoid the hand of a fan himself. So, he was allowed to cause a crash which takes out the race leader in the finale in order to avoid going down himself? OK. Take a look at the winner at the ceremony, he looks like he feels something other than rightful joy?
